atNorth signs contract with YIT for additional data center building at campus in Finland

Nordic data center operator atNorth has taken another step in the expansion of its FIN04 campus in Myllykoski, Kouvola, Finland, by signing Finnish construction firm YIT as the main contractor for a new facility on the site. The agreement covers the construction of the building, designated FIN04A1, including mechanical, electrical, and plumbing works, marking the second time YIT has been selected for a project at the campus.

The decision to bring YIT back for another building comes just weeks after the contractor was appointed to handle a separate facility at the same site in July 2026. While the financial value of the latest contract and the construction timeline have not been disclosed, the move signals continued momentum for one of Finland's most significant data center developments.

Aleksi Laine, Executive Vice President of YIT's Infrastructure segment, highlighted the importance of the ongoing collaboration. "We are pleased to continue and deepen our collaboration with atNorth. The FIN04 campus in Myllykoski is one of the most significant data center developments in Finland, and it is great to be part of its next phase. As Finland's leading data center builder, YIT has strong expertise in delivering technically demanding projects and meeting the high quality, safety, and security of supply requirements of the industry. We look forward to supporting atNorth in the continued development of the FIN04 campus and its future opportunities in Myllykoski," Laine said.

The FIN04 project has been steadily advancing since its initial announcement in late 2023. At that time, atNorth said the 23-hectare site would launch with 60MW of capacity and had the potential to reach "several hundred megawatts" when fully built. The company now lists the campus as offering up to 430MW across 45 hectares, with a path to "several hundred additional megawatts" beyond that.

The expansion push continues a broader growth strategy for atNorth in the Nordics. In February 2026, the company filed a permit request with local authorities in Kouvola to add three more data center buildings to the campus. Two of the buildings on the site were nearing completion as of March 2026, when atNorth also began hiring staff to support operations at the facilities.

Located approximately 135 kilometers northeast of Helsinki, Kouvola serves as the administrative capital of the Kymenlaakso region. The city's position and available land have made it an attractive hub for large-scale digital infrastructure projects.

YIT, which has been operating for more than 110 years, brings extensive experience in infrastructure, residential, and commercial construction across Finland. Its role in the FIN04 expansion underscores the growing demand for specialized construction expertise as Nordic data center capacity continues to scale to meet rising compute needs.

The addition of FIN04A1 is expected to further strengthen atNorth's footprint in the region, supporting the company's ability to serve enterprise and hyperscale customers with sustainable, high-performance colocation services. As the campus moves closer to full build-out, the partnership between atNorth and YIT is likely to remain a key factor in delivering the project on schedule and to the high standards required by the industry.
