Yondr sells majority stake in Slough data center campus to UK pension fund GLIL

By: IDCNOVARegion: Europe
European data center developer Yondr has agreed to sell a majority interest in its campus in Slough, west of London, to UK investment fund GLIL Infrastructure, marking one of the latest infrastructure deals involving pension capital in the region's digital economy.

The transaction, announced this week, covers a campus comprising three data centers, of which the first two are fully operational and deliver more than 60MW of capacity. The third facility has broken ground and is expected to come online in mid-2026. Yondr said it will retain a minority interest in the campus and continue to operate the facilities on behalf of its customer after the deal closes, which is anticipated later this year. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The sale reflects a broader trend of pension funds and long-term institutional investors seeking stable, inflation-linked returns from digital infrastructure assets. For Yondr, which is owned by DigitalBridge and Canadian pension fund La Caisse, the deal allows the company to recycle capital from a stabilized asset while maintaining operational control and upside exposure.

Aaron Wangenheim, CEO of Yondr, said: "This transaction represents another important milestone in Yondr's long-term growth strategy. Bringing GLIL on board as an investment partner allows us to realise value from a high-quality, stabilised asset while remaining invested in its future and continuing to operate the campus on behalf of our customer."

GLIL is a long-term investment platform established by UK pension funds to invest in infrastructure across the UK and Europe. The fund has previously invested in telecom tower operator Cornerstone. Lee Belfield, investment director at GLIL Infrastructure and LPPI, said: "This investment reflects GLIL's strategy of partnering with high-quality operators to invest in essential infrastructure that delivers resilient, long-term value for our pension fund members. Yondr has developed a high-quality asset with a strong operational track record, and we look forward to commencing a long-term partnership with the Yondr team."

Located on the site of a former paint factory, Yondr first announced plans for the Slough campus in November 2021. The first 40MW facility launched in June 2024, followed by a second 30MW building in April 2025. Planning permission for the third facility was secured in August 2024, with construction beginning in February 2025. Slough, situated west of London, is one of the UK's primary data center hubs, hosting facilities operated by Equinix, Digital Realty, GTR, Iron Mountain, Csquare, Kao, Virtus, and others.

Yondr, headquartered in London, was previously owned by single-family investment office Cathexis, Apollo Global Management, and Mubadala before being acquired by DigitalBridge and La Caisse in a deal that closed in July 2025. German financial group Allianz has since taken a minority stake in the business. The company operates data center campuses across Europe, Asia, and North America, with developments in Virginia, Texas, Canada, the UK, Indonesia, Japan, Germany, and the Netherlands.
