Telconet launches third Ecuador data center in Guayaquil, unveils plans for Quito facility

Ecuadorian telecommunications operator Telconet has officially inaugurated its new Telconet Cloud Center III (TCC III) in Guayaquil, marking the company's third data center in the country. The facility, located on the Telcocity Technology Campus in Guayaquil, represents a key milestone in Telconet's broader strategy to expand its digital infrastructure footprint across Ecuador and the wider Latin American region.

The launch comes as part of a previously announced regional expansion plan that includes new developments in Guayaquil, Quito, and Ancón, alongside significant investments in connectivity infrastructure and submarine cable systems. With the new facility now operational, Telconet is preparing to move forward with the development of a fourth facility, Cloud Center IV, in the capital city of Quito, further strengthening its presence in the country's two largest urban markets.

Telconet operates more than 90,000 kilometers (approximately 55,923 miles) of domestic and international fiber-optic cable, providing a robust backbone for its data center and connectivity services. The company is also actively participating in the development of the Carnival Submarine Networks-1 (CSN-1) submarine cable system, a major infrastructure project expected to connect Ecuador, Panama, Colombia, and Florida, enhancing international connectivity for the region. In addition to its core data center facilities, Telconet operates an Edge site in Anconcito, supporting low-latency services for customers in that area.

The inauguration of TCC III underscores the growing demand for data center capacity in Latin America, particularly in emerging markets such as Ecuador, where digital transformation and cloud adoption are accelerating across both public and private sectors. By expanding its footprint in Guayaquil and preparing for a new facility in Quito, Telconet is positioning itself to capture a larger share of the region's expanding cloud and colocation market.

Looking ahead, the company is planning a total of eight data center and Edge facilities across Ecuador, Panama, Colombia, and the United States. According to local reports, the company's Panama and Colombian facilities, located in Barranquilla, are expected to go live before the end of the year, signaling a rapid pace of expansion that could reshape the competitive landscape in the region's data center market. As Telconet continues to scale its infrastructure, the company is likely to play an increasingly important role in supporting the digital economy across multiple Latin American markets.
