Sixth Street, GIC, SK Telecom and La Caisse Vie to Acquire Stake in Bridge Data Centres

By: IDCNOVARegion: Southeast Asia
A consortium of prominent global investors is circling Asia-Pacific data center operator Bridge Data Centres, as current owner Bain Capital seeks to offload a significant stake. The bidding underscores the intense demand for digital infrastructure assets in the region, driven by surging cloud and AI workloads.

According to a Bloomberg report citing unnamed sources, investment firm Sixth Street Partners, South Korean telecom giant SK Telecom, Singapore sovereign wealth fund GIC, and Canadian pension fund La Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec are all vying to acquire at least a partial stake in Bridge Data Centres. Bain Capital could sell up to 50 percent of the company, with a potential valuation of around $4 billion, the report said. No final decisions have been made, and the talks remain private.

Spokespersons for Sixth Street, SK Telecom, GIC, and La Caisse declined to comment to Bloomberg. Bridge Data Centres told Data Center Dynamics: “As a matter of policy, we do not comment on unverified information or market rumours.”

Singapore-based Bridge Data Centres currently operates a portfolio spanning Malaysia, Thailand and India. The company lists five data centers in operation or under development in Malaysia, two in Thailand, and one in India. It has publicly stated a target of reaching 3GW of total capacity by 2030, positioning itself as a major regional player.

The potential sale has been the subject of market speculation since late last year. In April 2026, reports emerged that Bain was actively exploring a partial exit, which Bridge dismissed at the time as “speculative and unsubstantiated.” Founded in 2017, Bridge was merged with Bain’s Chinese data center business, ChinData, in 2019. The two were separated again after ChinData was sold to a Chinese-led consortium in September 2025.

Bain Capital also owns EMEA-focused data center firm Hscale and U.S. operator DC Blox, highlighting its broad exposure across digital infrastructure. For the bidders, acquiring a stake in Bridge would represent a strategic expansion into the fast-growing Southeast Asian market. La Caisse, with assets totaling C$517 billion (US$378 billion), has previously backed data center firms such as Cologix, Yondr, NextDC, and Vantage. Sixth Street, which manages $80 billion across software, life sciences, and digital infrastructure, previously invested in AirTrunk before its acquisition by Macquarie and holds a minority stake in EdgeConneX.

GIC, established by the Government of Singapore, has a strong track record in data center investments globally, including Vantage’s EMEA platform, Equinix’s xScale hyperscale data centers, and a Brazilian joint venture. SK Telecom, part of South Korea’s SK Group, operates numerous data centers domestically and recently launched a dedicated data center business. The competitive bidding reflects the broader trend of institutional capital flowing into digital infrastructure, as demand for capacity continues to outpace supply in Asia.
