Pilot Fiber has finalized its acquisition of Extenet Systems LLC's enterprise fiber business, marking a strategic expansion of its network footprint beyond the New York metropolitan area into New Jersey. The transaction, first announced six months ago, closed on August 15, 2026, and brings the former Hudson Fiber Network and Axiom Fiber Network assets under Pilot's ownership.
The deal adds direct fiber access to more than 20 data centers to Pilot's footprint, including direct connectivity to Nasdaq and NYSE. According to the company's website, Pilot now connects 47 data centers in total. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
As part of the acquisition, approximately 200 additional enterprise, carrier, and institutional customers across financial services, healthcare, media, and higher education will transition onto Pilot's network. This integration is expected to significantly broaden the company's customer base and service capabilities in the region.
"This is an exciting moment for us as we welcome Extenet's customer base to Pilot. The combined network allows us to deliver more value to both new and existing customers. With the acquisition complete, our focus turns to execution. We will be investing in this infrastructure and our newly acquired footprint in New Jersey while continuing to provide customers with a world-class experience," said Joseph Fasone, CEO of Pilot.
Founded in 2014, Pilot has built a network of more than 300 miles of modern fiber infrastructure throughout New York City. The company serves more than 3,700 businesses across more than 1,000 buildings with a full suite of services, including dedicated Internet access, Ethernet transport, dark fiber, wavelength, and IP transit.
The acquisition reflects a broader trend of consolidation in the fiber and connectivity sector, as mid-sized network providers seek to expand their geographic reach and data center connectivity to meet growing demand from enterprises and carriers. By strengthening its presence in New Jersey, Pilot is positioning itself to capture more business from data center operators and institutional clients in the region, while enhancing its competitive standing against larger national providers.
