ONE Nuclear unveils 2.88 GW Louisiana gas plant and battery storage project with co-located data center campus

ONE Nuclear Energy LLC, a developer focused on large-scale energy solutions combining natural gas and advanced nuclear technologies, has signed a binding letter of intent to secure site control for Project Cayman, a major energy infrastructure initiative in Ascension Parish, Louisiana. The project includes a 2.88 GW natural gas plant and a 700 MW, 2.88 GWh battery energy storage system, positioned near the RiverPlex MegaPark and complemented by a co-located high-capacity data center campus.

The development comes at a time when electricity demand from data centers and industrial expansion is reshaping power planning across the U.S. Gulf Coast. By pairing dispatchable gas generation with large-scale battery storage and digital infrastructure, the project is designed to deliver reliable, round-the-clock power to one of the region’s fastest-growing industrial corridors. The co-located data center campus further anchors the site as an integrated energy-technology hub, rather than a standalone power plant.

The initiative aligns with Entergy’s significant buildout of new regional transmission infrastructure, underscoring ONE Nuclear’s commitment to supporting Louisiana’s expanding industrial and technology sectors. The project will complement regional economic development efforts by adding dispatchable generation, energy storage, and technology infrastructure near major new industrial loads and transmission investment, providing further regional grid reliability.

Industry observers note that projects combining gas generation, storage, and data center load are becoming increasingly common as utilities and developers respond to surging power demand from AI and cloud computing. The co-location model reduces transmission losses and accelerates time-to-market for new capacity, while also strengthening grid resilience in areas with constrained supply.
