Microsoft launches fourth Azure data center region in India as part of $20.5B AI push

Microsoft has officially activated its fourth Azure data center region in India, located in the southern city of Hyderabad, marking a key milestone in the company's broader $20.5 billion investment plan to expand cloud computing and artificial intelligence infrastructure across the country.

The new region is designed to deliver cloud services to local enterprises and is part of Microsoft's long-term strategy to deepen its footprint in one of the world's fastest-growing digital economies. India has become a critical market for global technology firms, driven by its large pool of machine learning and data science engineers, as well as its vast data resources and rapidly expanding user base.

The country also serves as the headquarters for some of the world's largest technology services companies, including Tata Consultancy Services and Infosys, further underscoring its importance as a hub for digital innovation and enterprise demand.

Microsoft said several major Indian corporations, including Adani Group, Bajaj Finance, HDFC Bank, and PB Pay, have already signed on as early-access customers of the new data center region. These partnerships are expected to accelerate the adoption of Microsoft's cloud and AI services in the region, providing local businesses with access to advanced computing capabilities and scalable infrastructure.

Industry analysts view the launch as a significant step in Microsoft's global expansion strategy, particularly as demand for AI-driven workloads continues to surge. The Hyderabad region is expected to play a central role in supporting the growing needs of Indian enterprises across sectors such as financial services, energy, and digital payments.

With this launch, Microsoft is positioning itself to capture a larger share of India's cloud market, which is projected to grow substantially in the coming years as more organizations migrate to digital platforms and integrate AI into their operations.
