Microsoft Sets November 2026 Launch for Saudi Arabia East Data Center Region

Microsoft has confirmed that its Saudi Arabia East data center region will become available to customers in November 2026, a move that will enable government and private sector organizations across the Kingdom to access Microsoft cloud and AI services while hosting eligible workloads and data locally. The announcement marks a significant step in Saudi Arabia's broader digital transformation agenda under Vision 2030.

The new region, located in the Eastern Province, will comprise three Azure Availability Zones, Microsoft said in a press release. By establishing a local cloud footprint, the company aims to deliver data residency, enterprise-grade security, high availability, and low-latency access to cloud and AI services, addressing critical requirements for regulated industries and public-sector entities operating in the country.

The launch is positioned as a key enabler for Saudi Arabia's ambition to become a global leader in AI-driven economic growth. "Saudi Arabia is building one of the world's most ambitious AI-powered economies, enabled by strong partnerships and world-class digital infrastructure," said Eng. Nasser AlNasser, Deputy Minister of Technology at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT). "The availability of Microsoft's cloud region in the Kingdom represents an important step in accelerating AI adoption, empowering innovators, entrepreneurs and organizations across all sectors to create new opportunities for growth and competitiveness."

Microsoft's regional leadership echoed that sentiment, framing the milestone as a catalyst for moving AI from pilot projects into production environments. "Today's milestone is about much more than bringing cloud infrastructure closer to our customers," said Ayman AlGhamdi, President of Microsoft Arabia. "It is about giving organizations across Saudi Arabia the foundation to take AI from experimentation into everyday operations."

Saudi organizations are already leveraging Microsoft cloud and AI technologies, but the availability of in-country infrastructure is expected to accelerate the migration of additional workloads into the Kingdom. The local region will enable scale-up of AI adoption across sectors where data residency, security, resilience, and latency are mission-critical, including energy, finance, healthcare, and government services. Industry observers note that hyperscaler investments in the Middle East are intensifying as regional demand for sovereign cloud and AI capabilities continues to rise.
