Pure DC has officially launched the first phase of its massive data center campus in Seinäjoki, Finland, with Microsoft reportedly signing on as a key tenant. The development marks one of the largest digital infrastructure investments by a UK company in the Nordic region, underscoring the growing demand for high-density, AI-ready capacity in Northern Europe.
According to a report by Bloomberg, the initial phase will deliver 110 megawatts (MW) of data center capacity, backed by an investment of approximately $1.7 billion. People familiar with the matter confirmed to the publication that Microsoft is among the customers expected to lease space at the site. Both Pure DC and Microsoft have declined to comment on the arrangement.
Pure DC has been advancing the Seinäjoki project for over a year. In April 2026, the company acquired a 22.3-hectare plot from the city for €3.86 million ($4.55 million), with plans to construct three data center buildings. The company has since expanded its vision for the campus, now targeting a total capacity of 550 MW across 370 acres, with total investment projected to exceed €7.5 billion ($8.55 billion) for the full buildout.
The campus, designated SJK01, is expected to generate approximately 3,000 construction jobs over the next decade. It will feature repeatable 40 MW AI-ready modules equipped with direct-to-chip liquid cooling, designed to support the high-density workloads typical of modern artificial intelligence and cloud computing operations.
Jaakko Kiiskilä, mayor of Seinäjoki Municipality, highlighted the long-term regional impact. “Our partnership between the Seinäjoki region and Pure DC has been forged over the past two years, and I’m excited to see this part of our regional development strategy come to life. This project will bring major employment to the Seinäjoki area for years to come, and across many skills and trades,” he said. Kiiskilä added that beyond construction and permanent roles, the project will generate broader benefits, including reinvested business rates and property taxes, repurposed waste heat for the district heating network, and investments in education and reskilling initiatives. “Our joint belief is that this campus can be a catalyst for the creation of an even larger ecosystem of entrepreneurs, supply chain industries, and employment for residents,” he noted.
The British ambassador to Finland, Laura Davies, also praised the investment. “I am delighted by this major UK investment into Pure DC’s new site in Seinäjoki - the largest yet by a UK company in Finland. It's an example of the growing role of UK companies in financing and delivering digital infrastructure across Europe, which is a key component of building our shared data sovereignty.”
Seinäjoki, the regional capital of South Ostrobothnia in western central Finland, is emerging as a strategic location for large-scale data center development. Earlier this year, Pure DC secured $2.7 billion in financing to support its expansion. Founded in 2013 and owned by investment firm Oaktree Capital Management, Pure DC now has developments in London, Abu Dhabi, Riyadh, Madrid, Jakarta, Dublin, Amsterdam, and Seinäjoki, with more than 1 GW of capacity live or under development globally.
