Mainspring Energy Signs Landmark 1.6 GW Agreement with AEP for Reliable, Affordable Power Capacity

Mainspring Energy has signed a landmark sales agreement with American Electric Power, one of North America's largest electric utilities, to supply up to 1.6 gigawatts of Mainspring Linear Generators through 2034. Under the deal, AEP has purchased its first tranche of the products, totaling 190 megawatts, with delivery scheduled to begin in 2027.

The agreement marks the largest procurement of linear generators to date and represents a significant milestone for Mainspring as it extends its operations beyond the commercial, industrial and data center markets into the investor-owned electric utility sector at gigawatt scale. It also underscores the growing urgency among utilities to secure rapidly deployable capacity as power demand surges from AI data centers, manufacturing and electrification.

Mainspring Linear Generators are designed to deliver a combination of high reliability, dispatchability, efficiency and low emissions. For utilities, the products offer a rapidly deployable asset that helps maintain grid capacity, stability and affordability for customers while supporting rising power requirements across the economy.
