Magnora Data Center Acquires 2MW Oslo Facility in Partnership with Blix Group

By: IDCNOVARegion: Europe
Magnora Data Center has acquired an operating data center in Oslo, Norway, from an international telecom operator, marking the third site in the company's metro strategy to build a network of connected urban facilities across Oslo and the surrounding greater Oslo area. The acquisition provides the EuroNext Oslo-listed firm with a near-term revenue-generating asset as it expands its Nordic data center footprint.

The facility spans approximately 1,400 square meters (15,070 square feet) with up to 2MW of IT load and may be easily upgraded to meet the EN 50600 Availability Class 3 / Tier III standard. Magnora Data Center will hold a 75 percent ownership stake in the facility, with Blix Group holding the remaining 25 percent. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The site is connected to existing fiber networks, and Blix will link it to its own fiber infrastructure, integrating it with other MDATA and Blix sites in Oslo. A district heating off-taker is also being evaluated for the facility. Erik Sneve, chairman of Magnora Data Center, said the project strengthens the company's partnership with Blix Group and adds a new, near-term deliverable to its Oslo data center pipeline. "Taking over an operating facility gives us a fast track to revenue. With up to 2MW of capacity, strong security and robust fiber connectivity, the site is well suited to serve customers who need low latency, high availability, and their data kept in Norway," Sneve said.

The acquisition builds on a 50:50 joint venture agreement Magnora Data Center entered into with Blix Group in August, alongside the purchase of a commercial property near Oslo intended for development into an AI data center. Blix, founded in 2008, provides colocation services across data centers in Oslo, Stockholm, Copenhagen, London, Amsterdam and New York. Its existing Blix NR5 Oslo facility, located in the same building acquired in August at Nedre Rommen 5 in eastern Oslo, opened last year and offers up to 3MW across 1,000 square meters (10,763 square feet), hosting approximately 144 racks.

Magnora was initially founded in 2001 and transitioned into a dedicated renewable energy investor in 2018, backing a range of wind, solar and battery projects before moving into data centers last year. The company took its Magnora Data Center unit public in June and currently operates a live facility in Norway, with several more in development across Norway, Estonia, Finland and Italy. The latest acquisition underscores a growing trend among Nordic energy and infrastructure investors seeking to capitalize on rising demand for low-latency, high-availability data center capacity in Northern Europe.
