Infleqtion to Deploy Fault-Tolerant Neutral-Atom Quantum Computer at Illinois Quantum & Microelectronics Park by 2027

Quantum computing firm Infleqtion has announced plans to deploy a fault-tolerant, neutral-atom quantum computer at the Illinois Quantum & Microelectronics Park (IQMP), with an expected delivery date in 2027. The move underscores the growing push to bring advanced quantum systems out of the lab and into purpose-built infrastructure that can serve researchers, industry, and critical national applications.

The company also opened its Chicago Quantum Innovation Center, a facility that Infleqtion said will enable continued development of quantum computing applications while expanding its workforce in Illinois. In a statement, Infleqtion described the center as a “center of excellence for applying quantum computing to the American energy grid,” signaling a strategic focus on using quantum technology to optimize power systems and grid management.

Matthew Kinsella, CEO of Infleqtion, commented: “We’re bringing one of the most advanced neutral-atom systems in the world directly to the city’s researchers and industry partners. Chicago is rapidly becoming one of the most important quantum ecosystems in the world, where quantum computing moves from theoretical promise to practical reality.”

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker added: “Bringing a state-of-the-art neutral-atom quantum computer to Illinois means our researchers, entrepreneurs and innovators will have access to some of the most advanced quantum computing technology in the world. Partnerships and investments like this are what have made Illinois a global hub for quantum. From a growing Chicago team to a landmark quantum system now coming to Illinois, I’m proud to have Infleqtion as a partner in building our state’s quantum future.”

Infleqtion was founded as ColdQuanta and spun out from the University of Colorado in 2007, specializing in instruments and systems for quantum technology applications. The company announced plans to go public via a SPAC merger with Churchill Capital Corp X in September 2025, and began trading on the New York Stock Exchange in February 2026. Earlier this year, in March 2026, Infleqtion deployed the UK’s first operational 100-physical-qubit quantum computer at the National Quantum Computing Centre in Harwell, UK, demonstrating its ability to deliver large-scale systems internationally.

The deployment at IQMP represents a significant step for the state of Illinois, which has been actively building a quantum ecosystem anchored by the park and supported by public-private partnerships. By placing a fault-tolerant neutral-atom machine directly in the hands of local researchers and industry partners, Infleqtion aims to accelerate real-world quantum applications, particularly in energy grid optimization and other high-impact domains.
