FiveNines Group, a UK-based design, engineering, and construction firm, has partnered with Nexus Core Systems to develop a 20MW data center on the outskirts of Casablanca, Morocco, marking a significant step in the expansion of high-density computing infrastructure across North Africa.
The facility will be purpose-built for high-density AI computing workloads and is designed to house Nvidia Vera Rubin NVL72 systems, reflecting the growing demand for specialized data center capacity capable of supporting next-generation artificial intelligence training and inference. Under the partnership, FiveNines will oversee the project's design management, technical governance, consultant coordination, constructability assessments, and procurement strategy.
Gerry Curran, CEO of FiveNines Group, said the company was delighted to partner with Nexus Core Systems to construct an advanced data center in North Africa, noting that the project would bring together its international data center expertise with Moroccan architects, engineers, technical advisers, and relevant authorities. Bastian Remmlinger, head of infrastructure at Nexus Core Systems, added that the company was very pleased with the cooperation and services FiveNines Group had provided so far, and that the team had supported Nexus well in shaping the design and delivery approach for the Morocco data center.
The Casablanca facility will form part of the Nexus AI Factory Platform, through which Nexus aims to establish a 180MW advanced infrastructure hub powered by renewable energy. Nexus initially revealed plans for a 20MW facility in the region in April 2026. Prior to that, the company was reported to be working with Korea's Naver on a 500MW project in Morocco, which was targeting an initial 40MW of capacity.
On its website, Nexus Core Systems lists plans for a 12-hectare Moroccan site, alongside a 10MW site in Charlotte, North Carolina, and capacity totaling 40MW across Sweden. The company claims it can support up to 400kW per rack via liquid cooling, though the 20MW Casablanca data center is not listed among its published projects. Nexus Core Systems is led by CEO and cofounder Christopher Yoshida, a managing partner at boutique global advisory and private investment vehicle Pinetree Partners, who previously served as CFO at Northern Data.
Morocco currently maintains a small data center footprint, with Casablanca and Rabat representing its largest markets. Operators active in the country include Orange, N+One, and Inwi. The entry of a 20MW AI-focused facility signals growing investor confidence in North Africa as an emerging destination for digital infrastructure, particularly as demand for AI compute capacity continues to outpace supply in established markets across Europe and the Middle East.
