Green technology company Envision Group announced on Thursday the completion of its largest AI data center in Ulaanqab, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, marking what the company describes as a global benchmark for computing density and green-power integration in AI infrastructure.
The facility, powered entirely by renewable energy, spans a building area of 120,000 square meters — roughly the size of 14 standard soccer fields — and integrates one million microchips operating in tandem to deliver a computing capacity of one million petaflops, equivalent to the combined processing power of approximately 2 million laptops, according to a report by Shanghai Securities News.
The completion comes as domestic AI computing demand in China accelerates rapidly toward 100,000-chip and even million-chip interconnectivity. Envision said the new cluster has a total planned capacity of 2 gigawatts, which, once fully realized, will give it the world's highest token output capacity, positioning the site as a critical pillar for large-scale AI model training and inference workloads.
To power the cluster, the data center capitalizes on the region's abundant wind resources. Through self-built wind farms and dedicated transmission lines, the facility achieves direct green power supply, eliminating reliance on conventional grid electricity and significantly reducing the carbon footprint of its high-density computing operations.
Zheng Zihao, general manager of the group's Artificial Intelligence Data Center division, which oversees the new node, said the facility is primarily designed to address the urgent demand from leading technology and AI companies for large-scale adoption of domestically produced computing power. He added that the project is committed to delivering a green energy AI computing infrastructure solution tailored to China's growing computing needs.
"Looking ahead, we will bring replicable Chinese AI data center solutions to regions around the world facing urgent computing demand, weak energy infrastructure, and power shortages," Zheng said.
The project underscores a broader industry trend in which hyperscale AI infrastructure is increasingly paired with dedicated renewable energy sources, a model that is gaining traction across China as operators seek to balance explosive compute growth with sustainability commitments.
