DataVault Plans 3MW Data Center on Auckland's North Shore with 11 Launch Carriers

By: IDCNOVARegion: Oceania
New Zealand colocation provider DataVault has unveiled plans to develop a new 3MW data center on Auckland's North Shore, expanding its footprint in the country's primary data hub as demand for local capacity continues to rise.

The company said it has already secured the North Shore building, with fit-out work scheduled to commence in 2027 and the first stage of the facility expected to go live in the second half of that year. DataVault indicated that connectivity will be in place from day one, with 11 launch partners already confirmed and additional partners expected to be announced ahead of the facility's opening.

The named launch partners are EonFibre, Devoli, EdgeIX, Verge Infrastructure, WaveSquared, Vetta Group, Mercury Energy, PureLink, Vector Fibre, Vital NZ, and Megaport. Full technical specifications for the planned facility were not disclosed.

The North Shore project forms part of a broader expansion program through which DataVault aims to deliver approximately 6MW of additional capacity across Auckland, Hamilton, and Wellington over the coming years. At its existing Grafton site at 162 Grafton Road in Auckland, Data Hall 4 is set to go live in the first quarter of 2027, backed by what the company described as a significant international anchor tenant, followed by Data Hall 5 in the third quarter of 2027.

Founded in 2004, DataVault provides colocation services from sites in Auckland, Hamilton, and Wellington, and last year acquired a data center in Wellington from telecommunications firm Vital. Auckland remains New Zealand's main data hub, hosting more than 30 facilities operated by local and Australian-based players, with Microsoft also maintaining a presence in the country.

The expansion underscores growing investment in New Zealand's digital infrastructure as hyperscalers and enterprise customers seek locally based capacity to support cloud adoption and data sovereignty requirements. For DataVault, the addition of a North Shore facility with a pre-committed connectivity ecosystem positions the provider to capture demand in Auckland's northern corridor while competing with larger domestic and Australian operators.
