AdaniConneX, the joint venture between Adani Group and EdgeConneX and one of India's fastest-growing data center developers, has partnered with DE-CIX India, a leading interconnection platform operator, to establish a point of presence (PoP) at the Chennai 1 data center in the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT) region. The move marks a significant step in strengthening India's digital infrastructure by enhancing network connectivity within one of the country's key data center hubs.
The new PoP gives Chennai 1 customers direct access to DE-CIX India's internet exchange, cloud connectivity, and enterprise networking services. According to a press release, the PoP also benefits from the international subsea cable landing stations located across Chennai. This strategic positioning is expected to reduce latency, improve user experience, and boost the performance of digital services, which are critical as data consumption continues to surge across the country.

DE-CIX already operates internet exchanges across major Indian cities, including Mumbai, Delhi National Capital Region (NCR), Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru. The deployment of the Chennai PoP will enable connectivity to over 600 networks, encompassing telecom operators, internet service providers, content platforms, and global cloud operators. This broad reach enhances the value proposition for enterprises seeking robust and low-latency connectivity options.
Furthering their collaboration, AdaniConneX and DE-CIX India are exploring additional opportunities to expand interconnection capabilities across other campuses. The goal is to create a distributed and efficient network architecture that can support India's rapidly expanding data and connectivity needs, particularly as the country moves toward more advanced digital services and AI-driven applications.
The timing of this partnership aligns with the dramatic growth in internet usage in India. According to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), connectivity rates have surged from 14.9 percent in 2015 to 70 percent by 2025, with broadband traffic climbing sharply over the same period. Investments in telecommunication services are not only addressing current demand but also preparing the country for the next stage of growth, particularly in the AI era, where high-speed, low-latency networks are foundational.
