Core Scientific completes acquisition of Polaris DS to expand Muskogee campus to 1.5GW

Core Scientific has completed its acquisition of Polaris DS, a move that will enable the company to significantly expand its data center campus in Muskogee, Oklahoma. The transaction, initially announced in May 2026, marks a strategic step in the company's broader push to scale its power infrastructure for AI-driven workloads.

The acquisition brings Core Scientific approximately 440MW of grid-connected power capacity, previously utilized by Polaris under existing electric service agreements with Oklahoma Gas & Electric. In addition to the power capacity, the deal includes 40 acres of land and had a cash value of $444 million. Polaris had been using the power at the site to support its bitcoin mining operations, which now transition under Core Scientific's management.

With the deal closed, Core Scientific is positioned to advance its plans for the adjacent Muskogee campus, targeting 1.5GW of gross power and 1GW of leasable power. This expansion will be achieved through a combination of grid connections and behind-the-meter solutions, reflecting the company's strategy to secure large-scale energy capacity for data center development.

Adam Sullivan, CEO of Core Scientific, highlighted the importance of the acquisition in the company's growth trajectory. "The Polaris acquisition is another example of how we are strategically expanding our power portfolio to support our long-term growth," he said. "Through site acquisitions this year, we have added more than 600MW of leasable power to our portfolio, while continuing to further scale our campuses."

Core Scientific said it remains on track to deliver the next 82MW of capacity at the site to an unnamed customer beginning in the second half of 2027. The first 70MW data center building was set to be handed over to CoreWeave in Q2 2026, underscoring the company's momentum in fulfilling existing commitments.

Founded in 2017 as a cryptomining data center operator, Core Scientific has pivoted to focus on AI data center development. The company operates facilities across Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, and Texas. The Muskogee site has been a key part of its portfolio since the Muskogee City-County Port Authority announced a partnership with Core Scientific in April 2022 for a 500MW blockchain and crypto mining data center at the Port of Muskogee John T. Griffin Industrial Park. Polaris had separately announced plans in 2024 to develop a cryptomine on a 42-acre site in the same industrial park.

The completion of this acquisition reinforces Core Scientific's position in the competitive data center market, as it continues to secure power capacity and land to meet growing demand from AI and cloud service providers. The expansion at Muskogee is expected to contribute meaningfully to the company's long-term capacity goals, aligning with broader industry trends toward large-scale, energy-intensive data center developments.
