Taiwan-based printed circuit board (PCB) manufacturer Compeq Manufacturing has announced the acquisition of a land and plant site in Taoyuan’s Guanyin District for NT$2.09 billion (approximately $65 million). The move is aimed at expanding the company’s production capacity for high-end PCBs used in optical communication modules and data center infrastructure, responding to surging demand from the artificial intelligence and cloud computing sectors.
The acquisition comes as global data center operators accelerate investments in high-speed interconnect technologies, particularly optical transceivers and co-packaged optics, which require advanced PCB substrates capable of supporting higher signal integrity and thermal performance. Compeq, a key supplier to major networking and server OEMs, is positioning itself to capture a larger share of this rapidly growing market.
Industry analysts note that the expansion reflects a broader trend among PCB manufacturers in Asia to pivot toward specialized, high-value products tailored for AI and data center applications. As hyperscale data centers push for higher bandwidth and lower latency, the demand for complex, multi-layer PCBs used in optical engines and switch systems is expected to rise sharply over the next two to three years.
The Guanyin facility is expected to begin production in phases, with initial output targeting optical module substrates and high-layer-count server boards. Compeq has not disclosed the exact timeline for full-scale operations but indicated that the site will play a critical role in meeting customer orders for next-generation data center equipment.
