By: IDCNOVARegion: South Asia
CIMIC Group company Leighton Asia has been awarded a contract by a multinational technology corporation to construct a data centre in Hyderabad, India, marking another step in the contractor's expansion across Asia's rapidly growing digital infrastructure sector.

The project will be delivered through a joint venture with Sterling and Wilson, combining Leighton Asia's regional construction expertise with the local partner's engineering capabilities. Construction is scheduled to commence immediately, though the contract value and facility capacity were not disclosed.

The award underscores the sustained demand for data centre construction across key Asian markets, where hyperscale and enterprise clients are racing to expand computing capacity to support cloud services, artificial intelligence workloads and digital transformation initiatives. India in particular has emerged as a major growth market for data centre development, driven by its expanding digital economy and supportive government policies.

CIMIC Group President and Executive Director Roberto Gallardo said the award reflects the confidence clients have in Leighton Asia's ability to deliver complex projects safely and reliably. "We're seeing strong demand for high-quality digital infrastructure across key Asian markets, and this project further strengthens our presence in a sector where we have proven capability and a strong track record," he said.

Leighton Asia Managing Director Brad Davey noted that the company has built a strong relationship with this client through successful project delivery. "Data centres require a high degree of planning, coordination and technical expertise. Together with Sterling and Wilson, we're focused on delivering a facility that meets the client's requirements and supports their long-term growth in India," he said.

The contract adds to a growing pipeline of data centre projects across the Asia-Pacific region, as construction firms compete for a share of the booming digital infrastructure market. For CIMIC and Leighton Asia, the Hyderabad project represents a further consolidation of their position in a sector that continues to attract significant investment from technology companies and institutional investors alike.
