Blockchain Firm Blockmate Ventures Enters Neocloud Market With Nvidia B200 GPU Cluster Purchase

By: IDCNOVARegion: North America
Blockmate Ventures, a blockchain venture company, is making its first direct move into the AI neocloud market through a partnership with Scannit to acquire and operate a cluster of eight Nvidia B200 GPUs, marking a strategic pivot for a firm historically focused on Bitcoin and digital infrastructure.

Under the terms of the agreement, Blockmate will own the hardware while Scannit will operate and sell compute capacity from an undisclosed data center located in the United States. The GPUs carry a purchase price of $635,000, inclusive of shipping, data center setup, installation, network connectivity, and onboarding. The acquisition will be funded through a combination of Blockmate's existing cash resources and debt financing, with the blockchain company positioned to receive the majority of gross revenue generated by the cluster.

Delivery of the GPUs is slated for the first quarter of 2027, subject to vendor timing and Nvidia allocation. Following delivery, the hardware is expected to be installed, tested, and made available to commercial customers within one week. Blockmate indicated that depending on the success of this new business model, it will evaluate future deployments, including larger clusters and future Nvidia hardware generations.

"This is Blockmate's first direct step into the AI neocloud market. We will own the Nvidia hardware, while Scannit provides the specialist infrastructure, operations and customer relationships required to keep that compute working," said Domenic Carosa, founder and chairman of Blockmate. "We are deliberately starting with one node. The objective is to get it online, generate revenue and build real operating data around utilization, pricing and costs. Based on the economics we are seeing today, we believe the initial capital invested in the node has the potential to be recovered in approximately two years, although actual results will depend on utilization, market pricing and operating costs."

The move reflects a broader trend of blockchain and crypto firms diversifying into AI compute infrastructure as demand for GPU capacity continues to surge. Founded in 2010 as Midpoint Holdings, Blockmate rebranded in 2022 to focus on AI, Bitcoin, and digital infrastructure. In June 2025, the company launched Blockmate Mining, a dedicated Bitcoin mining subsidiary targeting up to 200MW of mining capacity in Wyoming as part of a long-term Bitcoin holding strategy. Blockmate said it is continuing to advance its Wyoming AI data center development, with the 200MW of capacity subject to zoning, power availability, engineering, permitting, and other development requirements.
