Bitdeer AI Deploys Nvidia GB300 NVL72 Cluster in Malaysia, Secures $400M Offtake Deal

Bitdeer AI, a subsidiary of Bitdeer Technologies Group, has brought online Nvidia GB300 NVL72-based capacity at its A102 data center in Malaysia, marking a significant step in the company's push into the AI cloud market. The facility, once fully operational, will deliver 9.5MW of rack-scale liquid-cooled AI infrastructure, with half of that capacity already committed under a five-year offtake agreement valued at $400 million.

The deployment is part of a broader strategy by Bitdeer AI to establish itself as a credible player in the rapidly expanding AI infrastructure space. The company, which entered the AI cloud sector only recently, is targeting 350MW of AI cloud capacity by the first quarter of 2028. The A102 site is described as a "multi-customer facility," purpose-built to support high-density, liquid-cooled AI workloads, a design choice that aligns with the thermal and power demands of Nvidia's latest GB300 NVL72 systems.

While the exact location of the data center has not been disclosed, the company confirmed that the contracted capacity will begin generating revenue and incurring costs from the first quarter of 2027. Negotiations are ongoing for the remaining capacity at the site, according to Bitdeer AI officials.

Michael G. Potter, CFO of Bitdeer Technologies Group, emphasized the financial discipline behind the deal. "Facility A102 is one of the first of several AI cloud sites we expect to contract and bring online, and the terms we secured here are a good indication of the discipline we apply to deploying capital," he said. "Roughly half of A102 is contracted ahead of energization, on a long-term offtake commitment basis, with a customer of high credit quality. Our active pipeline for AI cloud capacity now exceeds $2 billion, or approximately 24.5MW. Together with our recently announced lease at our Tydal, Norway site, this reflects our ability to bring AI capacity online and contract it ahead of energization."

Retainna Lin, VP of AI cloud at Bitdeer AI, highlighted the company's execution speed as a competitive advantage. "Our ability to execute is what sets us apart," she said. "We entered a competitive process later than other providers and delivered ahead of them, enabling the customer's business timeline and establishing our credibility as we pursue additional AI cloud opportunities across our portfolio."

The A102 deployment follows Bitdeer AI's earlier launch of an Nvidia GB200 NVL72 system in Malaysia in January of this year, though the company has not confirmed whether that system resides at the same facility. The parent company, Bitdeer Technologies Group, is primarily known as a cryptocurrency mining firm, managing approximately 175,000 Bitcoin mining machines. The group currently operates six sites globally, including 13MW in Washington State, 37MW in Tennessee, 570MW in Ohio, and 175MW in Tydal, Norway.

In a move to diversify its energy and infrastructure portfolio, Bitdeer acquired a 101MW gas-fired power project in Canada in February 2025 for $21.7 million, with plans to develop a 99MW Bitcoin mining site. In April, the firm also acquired 40MW of liquid-cooled Bitcoin mining containers from Saiheat. The company has previously stated that its Washington and Tennessee sites, originally built for cryptomining, are being converted into AI data centers, and conversion work at the Norwegian site began in April. Bitdeer also lists plans for HPC sites in Molde, Norway, expected to go live by the end of 2028.

The A102 deal underscores a broader industry trend where crypto miners are pivoting to AI infrastructure, leveraging their existing power capacity and operational expertise to meet surging demand for high-performance computing. By securing long-term offtake commitments ahead of energization, Bitdeer AI is positioning itself to de-risk its capital-intensive expansion while capitalizing on the AI boom.
