A1 Digital, the B2B digital services arm of the A1 Telekom Austria Group, has officially entered the Spanish market with a sovereign cloud service, marking a strategic push into one of Europe’s fastest-growing digital economies. The company formally established A1 Digital Spain earlier in 2026 and now plans to deploy its own cloud infrastructure in the country, expand its local workforce, and build a network of technology partners.
At the core of the expansion is Exoscale, A1 Digital’s European Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) platform. Built on open-source technologies and with all infrastructure located within Europe, Exoscale is designed to offer an alternative to large international cloud providers. The company emphasizes that the platform ensures customer control over data and reduces technological dependency on third-party intellectual property.
“Digital sovereignty has already reached the boardroom. Companies want to decide what data they control, where it is stored, and under what regulatory framework they operate,” said Elisabetta Castiglioni, CEO of A1 Digital International. She added that Spain, as one of the fastest-growing economies in Europe and a natural gateway to Latin America, was the next logical step in the company’s European expansion.
Beyond cloud services, A1 Digital is also launching an IoT Managed Connectivity offering in Spain. This service targets connectivity projects for industrial assets, sensor networks, smart metering, transportation, energy, and healthcare sectors. The dual launch underscores A1 Digital’s ambition to establish a comprehensive digital services footprint in the country.
The move reflects a broader industry trend where European enterprises and governments increasingly seek cloud solutions that guarantee data sovereignty and regulatory compliance. By investing in local infrastructure and building a partner ecosystem, A1 Digital aims to drive what Castiglioni called “a digitally sovereign Europe.”
