China Meida Group(CMG)announces to launch a 5G new media platform together with China Telecom,China Mobile,China Unicom and Huawei.
Notably,executives representatives of China Telecom,China Mobile,China Unicom and Huawei all attend the signing ceremony and delivered speeches.
Before that,it’s widely discussed on the Chinese State Administration of Radio,Film and Television(SARFT)winning a 5G license.Late November last year,the director of SARFT announced publicly in a conference that MIIT has approved the participation of 5G by SARFT.
Actually,this decision is made upon the decline of cable revenue recent years owing to competition from streaming industry from Internet and mobile,thus it is a crucial opportunity to apply and get involved in 5G for the traditional broadcasting industry.
On the signing ceremony,Shen Haixiong,the director of CMG demonstrated the eager willingness to grasp 5G,achieve the leap development and broadcasting television and transmission.
Shen said,“5G represents the cutting edge trend of telecommunications,acts as the key field of world sci-tech development and competition,and also provides a brand new opportunity for media industry.Nowadays there is one year left for the mass commercialization of 5G,CMG will utilize 5G new media platform to promote the leapfrog development in terms of broadcasting televion and transmission technologies.”
According to Shen,the CMG 5G new media platform will launch a“5G media application lab”and select around 10 cities for trial and relevant testing,to build up end-to-end application testing system,promote 5G crucial technologies’testing and application verification in the 4K super HD programmes’transimission,as well as create relevant technical specifications on 4K super HD live signal,transmission,receiving and production based on 5G.
Would the broadcasting television industry achieve greater development using 5G?Yang Guang,the wireless network operation director of Strategy Analytics held that,currently the SARFT system is facing quite obstacles in terms of capital and intelligence.Based on its tens of billions of revenue annually,it’s really difficult to set up a 5G network covering all the country.
However,there are spectrum frequency advantage for SARFT system as well as its power in streaming content production and promotion,which is a foundation to cooperate and rely on with the fundamental telecommunication operators.
