A few days ago, the theme of the 16th China IDC Industry Annual Ceremony was officially announced. The organizing committee of the conference combined with the development status and trend of the data center industry in the first year of the 14th Five-Year Plan period, and comprehensively considered the data center industry policy impact, planning and design, construction layout, investment and financing, technological innovation and application and other dimensions, and confirmed the theme of the conference as "energy, computing power, digitization".
Digitalization has spawned more new demands for infrastructure
The "14th Five-Year Plan" and the 2035 long-term goal outline proposed: "Accelerate the promotion of digital industrialization" and "Promote the digital transformation of industries.” This is a strategic deployment made by my country to grasp the general trend of the world's scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation, and it points out the direction for creating new advantages in the digital economy.
In recent years, China digital technology has been developed and widely used. Digital technology is used in thousands of industries, and various social production activities to generate recordable, storable, and exchangeable data information. Data has become an important means of production and one of the key factors of production. The flow, docking, and integration of data between different entities has made the real economy burst out with new vitality and a new look.
In the future, my country will have higher and higher requirements for data processing efficiency, data processing capabilities, and data processing intelligence. To achieve the long-term goal of industrial digitization, it is necessary to use digital information technology, advanced Internet and AI technology to carry out an all-round, all-angle, and full-chain transformation of traditional industries. This has also spawned new demands for more digital technologies, products, services, infrastructure, and corresponding solutions.
Computing Power & Data Center Construction
The data center is an important part of the new infrastructure. The computing power infrastructure represented by the data center is the "foundation" of the new infrastructure.
In 2020, the National Development and Reform Commission clarified the scope of new infrastructure and proposed the construction of computing power infrastructure represented by data centers, super computing centers, and intelligent computing centers. In this context, all regions actively responded to the policy, vying to increase the layout of the construction of computing power infrastructure, in order to promote the rapid iterative development of the regional economy and industrial structure.
In 2021, the "National Integrated Big Data Center Collaborative Innovation System Computing Power Hub Implementation Plan" (hereinafter referred to as the "Plan") was officially issued, clearly proposing to build a new computing power network system that integrates data centers, cloud computing, and big data to promote data circulation and achieve green and high-quality development of data centers. According to the "Plan", China will deploy and build the national hub nodes of the national integrated computing power network in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, the Yangtze River Delta, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Chengdu and Chongqing, as well as Guizhou, Inner Mongolia, Gansu, Ningxia and other places. These eight hub nodes will serve as the backbone connection points of China computing power network, develop data center clusters, carry out collaborative construction between data centers and networks, cloud computing, and big data, and serve as the national "Eastern Data and Western Computing" project. The strategic fulcrum will promote the orderly transfer of computing power resources to the west, and promote the solution of the imbalance between the supply and demand of computing power in the east and the west.
This will have a profound impact on the planning, layout and construction of domestic data centers.
Energy structure optimization is the ultimate path for the green development of data centers
Green development is a highly important topic in data centers. Excessive energy consumption has always been a pain point in data center operations.
In order to achieve the goal of carbon peak and carbon neutrality, China will implement high-quality development projects for data centers in the future, and will encourage the application of high-efficiency refrigeration solutions such as liquid cooling and water cooling. Meanwhile, it is encouraged to use efficient power supply and distribution solutions, such as DC power supply, high-voltage power distribution, and distributed power supply in new large and ultra-large data centers, etc. In addition, modular computer rooms, high-efficiency IT equipment, etc.will be used to improve the utilization rate of renewable energy, and build high standard green data centers.
At the same time, it will actively promote the use of renewable new energy such as wind and solar energy, accelerate the energy-saving and green transformation of small scattered data centers with poor efficiency and high energy consumption, and encourage data center operators to strengthen internal energy consumption data monitoring and management in order to improve energy efficiency.
In other words, whether the data center can successfully save energy and reduce carbon and achieve sustainable development will ultimately depends on the use of energy. The high-quality development of the data center is inseparable from the continuous optimization and improvement of the energy structure.
