IDCNOVA news: With surging internet apps data center traffic,the demand for high speed optical module product is soaring.
Together with Cisco,Keysight and other optical module companies,Tencent led to organized the first-ever 400G optical interconnection networking test in China,aimed to develop better solutions for data center industry.
As the continuing rapid growth,numerous newly-built and upgrading data centers stimulated the optical module market to expand unceasingly.As a type of interchanger technology to support data center,optical module has gone through revolution from 10G to 40 then 100G,at present,most of the newly-built or upgrading data centers adopted 40G and 100G optical module.
The rising traffic drives data center larger demand and higher performance towards high speed optical module,thus pushing its upgrading so that all the relatable companies are stressing on 400 research,development and potential mass production.In October,2018,China Academy of Information Communications and Technology released the China Data Center White Paper 2018,and estimated that the scale deployment of optical module will be available in 2019.
It’s commented that the 400G testing for optical module not introduced basic data for the following tech update,but also laid a firm and stable foundation for the concrete implementation of 400G in data center optical interconnection via networking test,performance assessment and optimization,etc.
It’s noted that this testing covered varied types of SR8,SR4.2,DR4,FR4 and so on,ranging from 100m to 10km,including the most advanced silicon optical module product,marking the largest,highest and broadest 400G testing ever in China.
According to Dr.Sun Min,the senior architect on optical interconnection,Tencent,it’s much-anticipated for 400G.As the fast development of cloud computing,it’s definitely all internet operators’expectation for faster optical interconnection.We hope to push further for the industrialization of 400G and products.
In addition,Tencent is setting about to formulate the specification on 400G optical module and connector type,and planning another testing on 400G this year.
