First phase of 50MW site goes live.
Philippine telco PLDT has launched its latest data center outside Manila.
“The country’s first-ever AI-ready hyperscale data center has officially been launched,” the company’s Vitro Inc. unit announced on LinkedIn this week. “Vitro Sta. Rosa stands as a powerful testament to PLDT’s unwavering commitment to supporting the Philippine government’s vision of making the country the digital hub of Asia.”
The inauguration event was attended by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., DICT Sec Henry Rhoel Aguda, DTI secretary Cristina Roque, Sta. Rosa Mayor Arlene Arcillas, PLDT chairman Manuel Pangilinan, ePLDT & VITRO Inc. president and CEO Victor S. Genuino.
Dubbed Vitro Sta. Rosa, the company said the 50MW, five-hectare site is set to be the largest data center campus in the country.
Plans for the Sta. Rosa data center were first shared in February 2022, with the company breaking ground the next month. The site was topped out in July 2024.
Located in Santa Rosa, in the Laguna province of the Philippines, the first phase of the facility offers around 10MW and is expandable to more than 13,000 sqm (139,931 sq ft) of white space.
Vitro is a subsidiary of ePLDT and the data center arm of telco PLDT. Vitro was established by ePLDT in 2000. The company has 10 other operational data centers with a combined IT capacity of 63MW. PLDT also has cable landing stations in Deat, Digos, La Union, and Batangas.
PLDT has been exploring selling a minority stake in its data center business to partners, including CVC Capital and NTT. No deals have been made as of yet. The telco has also previously mooted interest in listing its data center business on the Philippine Stock Exchange through a real estate investment trust.
