A-FLOW tops off its first data centre in the Philippines, targets Q4 launch

Philippine data centre developer and operator A-FLOW – the JV partnership between PAG-owned FLOW Digital Infrastructure and AyalaLand Logistics (ALLHC) – announced on Thursday that it has topped off its first data center in Biñan, Laguna.

The ML1 data centre – which has been under construction since December 2022 – is designed as a three-building carrier-neutral campus designed for a total IT load capacity of 36MW. A-FLOW claims it will be the largest carrier-neutral data centre facility in Laguna.

The first building’s structural framework is now completed, and will support an initial 6MW capacity when it officially begins operations sometime in the fourth quarter of this year.

A-FLOW said key features of the ML1 facility include robust and secure infrastructure, dual power feeds for enhanced redundancy, a hyperconnected environment establishing network diversity and flexibility, and scalability to accommodate future business growth.

“This project embodies our commitment to supporting the growing demand for data storage as the Philippines transitions to a digital economy,” said A-FLOW chairman and ALLHC president and CEO Robert S. Lao added,

The topping off ceremony comes almost two months after A-FLOW secured a fresh PHP2.4 billion (US$42.5 million) loan from Land Bank of the Philippines to fund the campus’ development.

It also arrives as the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has told the government it needs more funding to accelerate development of data centre infrastructure in the Philippines.

According to a report from W.media on Tuesday, DICT said it needs PHP15 billion for

data center development, but has only received P425 million.

DICT also said that despite the government’s desire to establish its own data centres to meet demand for compute power and support the digital economy, the government has yet to complete a single data center, according to the report.
