Indonesian technology company GoTo Group has signed five-year deals with Tencent and Alibaba to use their cloud infrastructure services.
GoTo, a provider of ride-hailing and delivery services, will use Tencent's Platform as a Service (PaaS) technology to support its end-to-end ecosystem, while Tencent will provide a "suite of cloud infrastructure solutions and digital services to GoTo's business."
GoTo's engineering team will also work with Tencent Cloud's in-house service and architecture experts to further develop its technology. GoTo will be using Tencent servers hosted in Indonesia.
Tencent Cloud spans 21 regions and 58 availability zones and has two data centers in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Poshu Yeung, senior vice president of Tencent Cloud International, said he is confident the company's platform will "benefit GoTo’s key service offerings."
Yeung said: "We remain committed to GoTo and Indonesia and we look forward to exploring further collaborations in the future.”
The deal with Tencent shortly follows another inked by GoTo with Alibaba Cloud.
The Alibaba agreement, signed on September 13, will also last for five years, and sees GoTo committing to using Alibaba Cloud services including advanced cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
Alibaba is set to provide cloud computing, cloud-native database, networking, security, and data analytics services to GoTo. GoTo will start migrating its existing cloud services to Alibaba Cloud in October 2024.
Patrick Walujo, GoTo Group CEO, said: "By collaborating with Alibaba, we are not only strengthening our technological infrastructure but also enhancing the services and solutions we can offer to millions of Indonesian consumers and businesses. This partnership marks a significant milestone in our journey to create a more inclusive and resilient digital economy in Indonesia. It also underlines our commitment to work with partners in a way that delivers the long-term sustainable growth that returns value to our shareholders.”
Notably, Alibaba is a long-term investor in GoTo, and the cloud contract will see Alibaba maintain its shareholding in the company for the duration of the agreement.
Alibaba invested in GoTo in 2022 during the company's IPO, though its stock price has declined by around 80 percent in the years since.
This month also saw Alibaba's vice president of cloud intelligence, William Xiong, join GoTo as the company's new CTO.
GoTo has previously signed cloud computing contracts with Google Cloud.
