Indosat's Lintasarta launches AI cloud 'GPU Merdeka' in Indonesia

Indonesian IT service management company Lintasarta has launched an AI cloud service called GPU Merdeka.

The Indosat-owned business said that the GPU-as-a-Service (GPUaaS) would be a sovereign AI cloud featuring Nvidia chips. Merdeka means "independent" or "free."

The GPU Merdeka service features GPU servers with a configuration of 8x Nvidia H100 SXM Tensor Core GPUs, with support for 3.35TBps bandwidth. The data centers the servers are in support up to 20kW per rack.

Indosat earlier this year said that it would spend $200 million to build an AI data center and telco building Surakarta, Indonesia, in partnership with Nvidia.

“Through our landmark partnership with Nvidia to become their cloud provider partner in Indonesia, we will democratize access to AI-cloud services, making them accessible to businesses across Indonesia and the region, and accelerating the growth of Indonesia’s digital economy,” CEO Vikram Sinha told DCD earlier this year.

For the launch of Merdeka, he added: "Lintasarta plays a crucial role in paving the way for our transformative journey into becoming an AI-native TechCo. We believe that the technology and expertise offered by Lintasarta will bring us closer to fulfilling our larger purpose of empowering Indonesia and propel the way towards achieving the 2045 Golden Indonesia Vision.”

Nvidia's head of developer programs for big data and analytics in the ASEAN and ANZ Regions, Deb Goswami, said: "Lintasarta has implemented Nvidia accelerated computing in GPU Merdeka, helping enable high-performance AI cloud services to empower Indonesia with sovereign AI."
