Vantage Data Centers has announced the groundbreaking of its second Cyberjaya campus (KUL2). This significant development marks a major step forward in the company’s commitment to Malaysia and its position as a leading data center provider in the region.
The new campus, spanning 35 acres adjacent to Vantage’s existing KUL1 facility, will boast an impressive 256MW of IT capacity upon completion. Designed to support the burgeoning cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) sectors, KUL2 will feature a dedicated substation, ensuring unparalleled expansion flexibility and speed for customers.
This groundbreaking ceremony was attended by key government officials and industry leaders, including YB Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, Minister of Investment, Trade & Industry, YB Gobind Singh Deo, Minister of Digital, and representatives from MIDA, Cyberview, and TNB.
Raymond Tong, President of Vantage’s APAC business, expressed gratitude for the support received from the government and partners, emphasizing the company’s dedication to contributing to Malaysia’s digital economy.
Vantage’s investment in KUL2 is part of its larger US$3 billion commitment to Malaysia, announced last year. The multi-facility campus will cater to both cloud and high-density computing requirements, positioning Malaysia as a strategic hub for data center operations.
Government officials expressed their enthusiasm for the project, highlighting its role in driving economic growth, creating jobs, and accelerating Malaysia’s digital transformation. The new campus is expected to contribute significantly to the nation’s goal of establishing 3,000 smart factories by 2030.
TNB, Malaysia’s leading electricity company, has signed an Electricity Supply Agreement (ESA) with Vantage, providing 500MVA-rated power capacity through a dedicated 275kV high-voltage substation for KUL2. This collaboration underscores TNB’s commitment to supporting data center growth and its focus on renewable energy integration.
With this groundbreaking, Vantage strengthens its presence in Malaysia, adding to its existing 31MW capacity at KUL1. The company’s APAC portfolio now includes 452MW of operational and planned IT capacity across Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, and Taiwan.
