March 13, 2024 - Data center operator Yondr Group has powered up its first campus in Johor, Malaysia.
The launch comes just two years after the company announced it was entering the Malaysian market.
Set on 72.8 acres of land in Johor’s Sedenak Tech Park and launched on schedule, the campus will offer 300MW at full build-out.
The announcement follows an August 2023 partnership between Yondr and Tenaga Nasional Berhad, a multinational Malaysian electricity company and the largest publicly-listed power company in Southeast Asia.
The partnership involves an electricity supply agreement that enables the delivery of 300MW+ IT load via a 275kV high voltage substation, when fully complete.
Paul Dillon, chief development officer at Yondr Group, said: “Malaysia is a central data center corridor for Yondr and reflects our commitments for growth in APAC.”
The Sedenak Tech Park, formerly known as Kulai Iskandar Data Exchange (KIDEX), is a data center complex in the 7,290-acre Sedenak Technology Valley.
The campus is set to have access to dark fiber connectivity and scalable utilities and infrastructure. The company said this will “effectively make the site the largest hyperscale data center campus in Southeast Asia.”
Yondr Group has said the Johor campus will offer valuable interconnectivity routes because of its close proximity to other key data center regions, such as Singapore.
Yondr’s campus joins Equinix, YTL, and GDC’s data centers in Johor, while Nvidia and YTL will launch AI supercomputer infrastructure at YTL's Johor campus later this year.
This latest campus launch shortly follows the company’s Northern Virginia campus, which was powered up last December.
The company also has sites, either in development or in operation, in Queretaro, Mexico; Sao Paulo, Brazil; Toronto, Canada; Amsterdam, the Netherlands; Berlin and Frankfurt, Germany; London, UK; Paris, France; Prague, Czech Republic; Johannesburg, South Africa; Jakarta, Indonesia; and Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai, and Delhi in India.
Last month, Yondr Group announced plans to develop a data center in west Tokyo with Japanese conglomerate Marubeni Corporation.
