January 1, 2024 - Japan's major telecom carrier KDDI says it is suffering service disruptions in some areas in Ishikawa and Niigata prefectures due to the earthquakes.
The carrier says its "au" mobile service, as well as "UQ mobile" and "povo" are not available or have been difficult to use since 4 p.m.
Fixed-line carrier NTT West also says its internet and IP phone services may not be available in some areas of Ishikawa Prefecture. It is feared that emergency phone service is also down.
It says its telecom facilities have been damaged by the earthquake.
