November 20, 2023 - Developers have started construction on a huge new data center campus in southern Dallas County.
Dallas-based Skybox Datacenters and developer Bandera Ventures are building the PowerCampus Dallas project on 100 acres in Lancaster near Interstate-35E.
The tech center is planned to total up to 1 million square feet.
“PowerCampus Dallas will raise the bar in the North Texas data center market and beyond,” Rob Morris, CEO of Skybox Datacenters, said in a statement. “This partnership brings together expertise in multiple disciplines that are critical for delivering significant capacity in this dynamic data center market.”
The new data center campus will have up to 300 megawatts of power with a private onsite electrical substation.
Des Moines, Iowa-based Principal Asset Management is a partner in the development.

The Southern Dallas County project is the third joint venture project between Skybox Datacenters and Bandera Ventures, with previous projects in Houston and Plano.
Skybox has additional campuses in Austin, Chicago, Northern Virginia and Silicon Valley.
Bandera earlier this year purchased the development site on South Dallas Avenue. Bandera was founded in 2003 and has a track record of industrial and office projects.
Dallas-Fort Worth is one of the country’s fastest-growing data center markets, with millions of square feet of new projects on the way.
In August, Google announced plans for a more than $600 million data center in Red Oak, south of Dallas. The first phase of that project will be about 285,000 square feet.
Addison-based Compass Datacenters is building a more than 500-acre data center campus near Interstate 35E in Red Oak.
