Pony.ai to use chips from VW-backed Horizon Robotics to build ADAS software

January, 11, 2023 - Self-driving car startup Pony.ai and artificial intelligence chip maker Horizon Robotics announced on Monday that they would partner to develop advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) for production cars based on the latter’s Journey 5 processor, customized for connected, intelligent vehicles. The Journey 5 chipset can produce 128 trillion operations per second (TOPs) of computing power, compared to Tesla’s 144 TOPs offering, and has been deployed in vehicles such as the cheaper versions of Li Auto’s L8 and L7 crossovers. Pony.ai plans to launch the ADAS software for highway driving in the second quarter of 2023. Separately, Horizon is working with Volkswagen to develop in-car software for Chinese customers.
