Huawei Clouds launches Indonesia region with low-latency access

JAKARTA (The Jakarta Post/Asia News Network): Huawei Cloud has announced the launching of its Indonesia region as an endeavour to capitalise on the country’s digital transformation, which requires increased cloud-computing infrastructure.

“[This region’s launch] is very important in reaching the national vision of Indonesia Emas [Golden Indonesia] 2045,” Coordinating Maritime Affairs and Investment Minister Luhut Pandjaitan said on Thursday (Nov 24).

Luhut said Huawei’s cloud-based local data centers could create the ecosystem needed for digital development in the country and hence the growth of the digital economy.

Huawei revealed that the Indonesia cloud region had 29 availability zones within it, wherein local top carriers are directly connected for low-latency, one-hop connections, allowing for access within 20 milliseconds in major cities.

The company says its technology ensures high availability at 99.99 per cent, zero data loss, and service continuity, with level-6 certification from the Disaster Recovery Institute International.

Huawei Indonesia CEO Jacky Chen said: “The Indonesia region is a regional hub of

KooVerse,” which is a global storage, computation and network resource of Huawei Cloud.

The launch is part of Huawei’s deal with the government as part of Indonesia’s digital transformation, which comes with an investment commitment of US$300 million over five years for local cloud infrastructure.

Huawei has also committed to partnering with 1,000 Indonesian entities and to aid 500 start-ups through technical support and training.

Furthermore, the company has promised to train 100,000 people in Indonesia for digital talent development through the Huawei Asean Academy in the hope of inducing a local ecosystem built on its infrastructure.

The academy said it had reached 70,000 trainees already and would not stop at 100,000.

Huawei Asean Academy Indonesia was established in 2020 in Cilandak, Jakarta. The academy comprises three institutes, namely one each specializing in engineering, technology and business.
