The world's first commercial subsea data center core equipment "Submarine Data Cabin" developed by Shenzhen Hailanyun Data Center Technology Co., Ltd (深圳海兰云数据中心科技有限公司) has been completed recently. It will be transported from Tianjin Port to Hainan Lingshui Sea Area, and will also enter the stage of offshore installation. It is expected to be completed and put into use by the end of this year
The "Submarine Data Cabin" has a water depth of more than 30 meters, a weight of 1,300 tons, which is equivalent to the weight of 1,000 cars. The tank’s diameter up to 3.6 meters, which is equivalent to the core module of the "Tianhe" space station. It is currently the largest submarine data cabin in the world.
As the "base" of Internet services, data centers are used for storage, computing, and information processing. During operation, a large amount of heat is generated, and a large amount of electric energy is required to cool traditional data centers. The subsea data center moves the traditional data center from the land to the seabed, which can effectively use seawater as a natural cooling source to realize heat dissipation, zero fresh water consumption, and low cost advantages brought by extremely low energy consumption ratio, which will promote the green development of the data center industry and support to realize the "double carbon" goal.
The Hailanyun project expert team has carried out technical research on the "submarine data cabin", and has successively overcome the challenges on the design of recyclable underwater pump modules, the safety of underwater sealing of super-large-diameter head flanges, the layout and prefabrication of complex pipelines in compact spaces, and Anti-adhesion and corrosion ability of marine biological environment. The goal of providing servers with constant humidity, constant pressure, anaerobic and dust-free working environment on the seabed has been realized.
It is said that the data cabin uses anti-corrosion materials, and the structural design life is 15 years. It provides power and network connection for each IT equipment in the cabin, and dissipates the generated heat into the seawater through the cooling system. The IT equipment in the data cabin is connected to the shore station through the submarine photoelectric composite cable, and connected to the Internet, so as to realize various applications of data.
The submarine data center cluster in Lingshui is composed of shore station bases, submarine composite cables, submarine substations, and submarine data cabins. It will serve as an important digital base for the development of Hainan's digital economy; It provides important computing power supplements in the process of implementing "Eastern Data Western Computing ", which has strong demonstration significance, and will extend services to countries and regions along the "Belt and Road" such as Southeast Asia.
