In this way, various regions of Hebei Province have introduced preferential policies to attract the development of the local data center industry and promote the overflow of data center construction from the main urban area of Beijing to surrounding areas. At present, first-tier IDC companies have participated or are participating in the data center market in Beijing surrounding areas through acquisitions and construction in the surrounding areas of Beijing.

From the layout of major enterprises, the representative leading IDC operators 21Vianet and Sinnet are both located in Beijing; in 2020, GDS purchased a data center in Tongzhou for 2.6 billion yuan and named it as GDS Beijing No. 13 data center and later it purchased a data center in Shunyi District, Beijing for 3.8 billion yuan and named as GDS Beijing No. 14 Data Center.

The report shows that the data center market in Beijing and surrounding areas will grow steadily in 2021. In 2021, the IDC market in Beijing and surrounding areas will reach 35.67 billion yuan, an increase of 18.6% over 2020. In 2020, affected by the pandemic, the control of newly expanded data centers in Beijing has been strengthened, the growth rate of the data center market in Beijing and surrounding areas has slowed down, and the average data center market size in other years has maintained a growth rate of about 20%. The market has entered a period of rapid development.

With the rapid development of the digital economy in Beijing and its surrounding areas, the demand for data centers is increasing. In the past five years, the compound annual growth rate of the number of data center counters in Beijing and its surrounding areas has reached 18%, and the supply of cabinet resources has grown rapidly.

Analysts from KZ Consulting pointed out that in 2021, the scale of operation cabinets in Beijing will account for 67.2% of the total scale of operation cabinets in Beijing and surrounding areas, and the proportion was decreasing. In 2021, Beijing added 31,000 cabinets into production, and the growth rate of cabinet resources will continue to decline. Affected by tightened policies and data center energy consumption indicators, the new scale of Beijing data centers will be limited in the future, and resource supply will tend to be tight. Zhangjiakou, Langfang, Tianjin and other areas around Beijing data center cabinet resource supply growth rate is significantly higher than Beijing.

KZ Consulting predicts that in the future, under the plan of "East and West", Zhangjiakou will become the area with the largest number of new cabinets in the surrounding areas of Beijing. It will undertake the overflow demand from Beijing, and the scale of data center supply will maintain rapid growth.
