On May 29th, 2022, the first "East Data and West Computing" Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Guangdong) Computing Power Industry Conference with the theme of "Calculation Linking the World, Data Gathering in Shaoguan" was successfully held in Shaoguan, Guangdong. Since the official launch of the "East Data West Computing" project, the first national computing power industry conference held in Shaoguan.
At the meeting, under the guidance of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology, the Guangdong Provincial Data Center Industry Alliance and the China Communications Industry Association Data Center Committee compiled and released the "White Paper on the Development of New Data Centers in Guangdong Province" (hereinafter referred to as the "White Paper") to sort out In the context of the rapid development of the digital economy in Guangdong Province, the current situation of data center industry development, summarizing industry development experience and achievements, and providing reference for the development of new data centers in Guangdong Province.
LIU Zhibin, the rotating chairman of the Guangdong Data Center Industry Alliance, said that in recent years, the growth rate of the Guangdong data center market has remained above 20%. In 2021, affected by factors such as the slowdown in demand growth in the Internet industry, the market size reached 16.41 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 19.5%.
The "White Paper" pointed out that the added value of Guangdong's digital economy in 2020 was 5.2 trillion yuan. In terms of industrial digitalization, the added value of Guangdong's digital industrialization was about 1.73 trillion yuan, and the number of high-tech enterprises in the digital economy reached 22,000, ranking first in the country. In terms of industrial digitalization, the value-added scale of industrial digitalization in Guangdong Province was about 3.47 trillion yuan, which is also the first in the country.
In terms of the data center industry, before the "East Data West Computing" project was fully launched, Guangdong Province issued the "Guangdong Province 5G Base Station and Data Center Overall Layout Plan (2021-2025)" for advanced planning, which is mainly divided into the following three aspects: The first is to reasonably control the overall scale of data center construction in Guangdong Province; the second is to optimize the spatial layout of data centers in Guangdong Province; the third is to optimize the energy consumption of data centers to promote the green and low-carbon development of the data center industry in Guangdong Province. After the “East Data and West Computing” project was fully launched, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area hub set up a data center cluster in Shaoguan to meet the real-time computing power needs of Guangzhou, Shenzhen and other places, guide the migration of warm and cold businesses to the west, and build a network that radiates to South China and even the whole country’s real-time computing power center.
LIU Zhibin, the rotating chairman of the Guangdong Data Center Industry Alliance, said in an interview that there are two main reasons for the Guangdong data center market to maintain a growth rate of more than 20% in recent years. The development of the data industry chain, and the second is that new industries are constantly changing and developing. Especially before the epidemic, a hundred flowers were blooming, and a lot of data needs were born, which promoted the construction of the entire industry.
"In 2021, the growth rate of the market size will slow down. On the one hand, the demand will decline due to the impact of the epidemic. On the other hand, there are also factors such as more scientific and rational planning and construction and the integration of the industrial chain. The growth must have a plateau period. The combination will also generate new driving forces." LIU Zhibin said.
The "White Paper" shows that in 2021, Guangdong Province will be operating 294,000 cabinets. In 2021, the demand for data centers in Guangdong Province will be about 217,000 units. Guangzhou and Shenzhen are the main sources of data center demand in Guangdong Province. Affected by the relationship between supply and demand, the listing rates of Guangzhou and Shenzhen, two core cities in Guangdong Province, were significantly higher than those in other regions, at 69% and 83%, respectively. Followed by Dongguan and Foshan, the combined listing rate of the two places is about 64%. Except for Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Dongguan, and Foshan, the listing level of other regions is lower, about 50%.
According to statistics, the added value of Guangdong's digital economy in 2020 will be 5.2 trillion yuan. In terms of industrial digitalization, the added value of Guangdong's digital industrialization will be about 1.73 trillion yuan, and the number of high-tech enterprises in the digital economy will reach 22,000, ranking first in the country. In terms of industrial digitalization, the value-added scale of industrial digitalization in Guangdong Province is about 3.47 trillion yuan, which is also the first in the country. The demand for data resource storage, computing and application has increased significantly.
Based on this background, LIU Zhibin pointed out that the digital economy puts forward higher requirements for the data center industry in Guangdong Province. According to reports, at present, in terms of the digital economy and data center industry in Guangdong Province, a number of policies related to new data centers have been continuously promoted, and corresponding multiple safeguard measures have been introduced in the overall planning and layout of the data center industry and the increase in talent introduction and training to ensure the stable development of new data centers.
Based on the content of the "White Paper", LIU Zhibin said that the development trend of the data center industry in the future is mainly reflected in the following four points: 1. The layout of the data center industry is optimized, the coordinated development of various regions, and large-scale data centers gather in Shaoguan; 2. Regional computing power Steady growth and continuous improvement of industrial operation efficiency. Under the clustering development of data centers, the industrial scale will continue to expand and the listing rate will increase steadily; 3. The PUE value will be further reduced, and energy-saving and carbon reduction technologies will be more applied; The ability to rectify and realize the independent and controllable core technology, so as to improve the security capability of the data center.
It is worth noting that at the Conference site, the Shaoguan Cluster, the national hub node of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, a national integrated computing network, was officially unveiled. According to the Plan, Guangdong will deploy large-scale green data centers in a unified and intensive manner, and guide the new and expanded large and super-large data center clusters in the province to gather. It is estimated that by 2025, the comprehensive carrying capacity of the Shaoguan data center cluster will reach 500,000 standard racks, the scale of servers will reach 5 million, the investment will exceed 50 billion yuan, and the PUE (data center energy efficiency indicator) will reach 1.25, and strive to reach 80 %.
The conference also held a strategic cooperation signing ceremony. The Shaoguan Municipal Government signed contracts with 30 companies, including Inspur, Huawei, China Energy Construction, Tencent, Kuaishou, China Telecom, GDS, etc. The total investment of the data center project is about 1,200 RMB. billion.
Among the above 30 companies, there are 18 data center projects to be invested in, including 4 telecom operators, China Telecom, China Mobile, China Unicom, and China Broadcasting Network, as well as a number of leading Internet and IDC companies. At the same time, there are 13 upstream manufacturing companies planning to invest in Shao, covering green industry, smart city construction, infrastructure services and other fields. The types of products they produce include servers, switches, cabinets, UPS, smart power supplies, refrigeration equipment, and energy storage. devices, prefabricated modules, etc.
